Biography
Prior to her start at Atholton Elementary and West Friendship Elementary School, Mrs. Clavell served as a band director at Perry Hall Middle School in Baltimore County, MD for 21 years. Before teaching at Perry Hall Middle School, she taught at Pine Grove Middle School and Perry Hall High School. She holds a Bachelor of Music Education from Ithaca College where she graduated Magna Cum Laude. She completed her Masters work in 2005, but continues to take post graduate classes—her most recent completed summer 2019.
At Perry Hall Middle School Mrs. Clavell taught and conducted all three grade levels of band. In addition to her regularly scheduled classes, she has led the Jazz Band, Clarinet Ensemble, Flute Ensemble, and Honor Band. During her 21-year tenure at PHMS, her performing ensembles consistently received superior ratings at Baltimore County Performance Assessments and Music Festivals in VA, PA and NY. In 2004 and 2006, the Perry Hall Middle School Band was selected to perform at the Maryland Music Educators Conference. Also in 2004 and 2006, she and her teaching partner, Neil Fishler, successfully commissioned two works for middle school band, Moscow, 1941 and Escape from the Deep, composed by Mr. Brian Balmages. In 2009 she, along with her department members, were recognized by MMEA with the Exemplary Music Program Award. In 2007 and 2012 she presented at the Baltimore County Music In-Service Day with fellow middle school directors. She routinely supervises student teachers and mentors new instrumental teachers. She has served as a guest conductor, adjudicator and clinician throughout Maryland.
Mrs. Clavell currently lives in Kingsville, MD, with her husband Chris and their two children, Emily and Christopher. She loves to read, bake and volunteer through her church.
